Have you always dreamed of an outdoor wedding? More and more in recent years has that become a reality in the UK (but not because the weather is any better!) Instead there are an ever growing number of wedding venues who are now licensed for outdoor ceremonies... or so it seems.
In reality it's still illegal to get married outside in the UK. I know what you're thinking, that you've seen loads of photos from outside weddings and have read plenty of them too. You've maybe even been offered an outdoor service at a venue you are considering? The truth is, that thanks to laws that started way back in 1837, you still need to be married under a 'permanent hard-standing structure.' As odd as it sounds, this is still the case which is why in any (legal) wedding you see outside, which is why the bride and groom are always standing under something. The something they stand under can be anything from a small stone arch to a full balcony that the couple in this picture are standing under. Either way, don't let this small niggle distract you from the fact you can get married sort-of outside with the wind blowing through your hair and the sun on your back!
For this wedding I was lucky in that I was able to stand alongside the registrars. It's always worth checking with your venue or registry service about how many people can be stood under there with you -different venues and registry services have different licences for various numbers of people.
From my position I was able to capture all of the photos I wanted, including this wonderful moment of the bride embracing the groom after they shared their wedding vows.
